How Can You Turn Nothing into Something?

I constantly tell people I work with, “If you’re a manager, don’t just manage; lead people to a place they never knew possible in their world and then some.” That means winning respect of those around you, not forcing them to do anything, and encouraging them to do their best and be their best.

People want to succeed, that’s the bottom line. In a struggling global economy things are harder but not impossible….and the great innovators, the creative professionals, those who in any capacity grow people for a living and a passion, are the ones who can bring a sense of possibility to the world.  That means you, the businessman and woman, the manager, the political leader and everyone in-between.

How can you turn nothing into something? By leading people from a sense of what’s possible, not impossible. By showing people that especially in a struggling economy you can thrive and grow and succeed because you are GREAT at what you do. By removing the words “Not now” and replacing them with “Yes, now! This IS the time to shine!” It’s about doing things differently and removing all the roadblocks that are standing in your way.

What are those roadblocks?

Identify them and let them go.  The longer you hold onto something that is no longer serving you, the deeper you’ll dig yourself in.  What do I mean by that?  I mean out of date ways of being, paradigms, perspectives, your genetics of thought or memetic environment.  Change how you do your work and stop trying to implement change using old ways.  Instead create new ones.  Ask yourself “What haven’t I thought of?” “What am I not paying attention to?”  This is the time to re-create, invent and begin anew rather than change bits and pieces along the way.

I’ll leave you with this thought…

“Work is an expression of one’s values; struggling is an expression of one’s unmet needs.  Either you are creating your life or the circumstances are.”  -  Thomas Leonard.

What’s it going to be?
