We See Things as We Are

“We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are” - Anais Nin

==================

Paying Attention:

==================

Are you seeing your world through a filtered lens? People generally see things through filters such as past history, cultural backgrounds, energy levels, ‘parental programming’ and experience, good and bad. They rarely see things as they are. They see things as they are.

When might that get you into trouble? When might you be judging someone based on backgrounds and experience that differs from yours? When might you judge yourself as lacking because someone is doing that to you?

Ahh but that’s a whole other conversation for another time….

It’s about mindfulness, paying attention to everything and everyone around you as they are, not through a filtered lens. That’s one of the major focuses of my work, to help my clients become aware of the truth of a situation as it unfolds, not one based on assumptions or expectations. If they live their life through those filters, they might not like the life they’re living because it rarely meets their expectations.

==================

Really Paying Attention:

==================

Many of you are in positions of leadership. Regardless of your position and level of power, you have influence and impact on all those around you, in the workplace and beyond. Most of you want to learn new things on a daily basis and are fast learners, however the question is, how quickly and thoroughly do you integrate new learning into your ways of being? What is the point of learning new information and skills if you park them?

Look back at courses you’ve taken, trips you’ve gone on where you’ve seen other cultures and traditions. Do you integrate some of that learning into your every day life? What might your life look like if you did?

What one thing can you do that will stretch you beyond your comfort zone? As we get older, our comfort zone shrinks, so it’s doubly important to be aware of and pay attention to how we might fall back into old patterns because it’s comfortable. That goes for old haunts, always shopping in the same location and not traveling out of your immediate vicinity, both geographical and proverbial because it takes too much energy. That’s the king of all filters! When’s the last time you cancelled out on something because “You couldn’t be bothered”?

Sound familiar? What might have been bothersome about it? That’s the key.

Make Yourselves Welcome

Filed under: Perspectives in Brief

Today I wanted to do two simple things…first of all welcome you to Perspectives in Brief and secondly inform you as to what’s going on in the world of A Better Perspective.  Along with this we’ll look at a few behavioral patterns you might want to pay attention to when it comes to you and others and ask yourself, are you seeing the full picture and are you getting what you want?

So first, a big thank you for sharing this time with me.  I know how priceless time is so I hope you find it well spent. I sincerely mean it when I say I want to acknowledge you for your efforts in honing your awareness skills, taking the time to see how you might learn, grow and simplify and, by taking the time to explore what you haven’t perhaps paid attention to or knew before.  Let’s hope these insights rock your world!

Now down to brass tacks ….a few of things to share…and perhaps think about…

==================
Listening:
==================

A quote that got a lot of response in my blog “When I became quiet,they could hear themselves” - Byron Katie.

“I could hear myself too, and truly listen to what they were saying to me.” (Donna Karlin)

Sometimes, in order just to be heard, we might drown out the rest of the world and we end up hearing nothing at all.  Have you done that to someone and watched them close up before your eyes?  Next time you feel yourself jumping in, remember by listening and staying silent we’re giving others the space to share and create and you the space to learn and connect.  That’s what leading is all about though, isn’t it, giving people the space to learn, grow and evolve into their level of excellence.

==================
Mastery:
==================

When you find yourself knowing (or thinking you know) all the answers?  Just ask a question and see just how much you really don’t know.  The masterful person is a beginner at every stage of his/her mastery. I call it Grad Basic and do a session months after many of my classes.  Exploring the basics from the perspective of someone who’s been there done that, blows people away, me included, each and every time, no exception.  So take a moment to go back and revisit the beginning with new eyes and you’ll be amazed at how much you see.  We tend to miss a great deal first time around.  What would it benefit you to revisit?  Something you might have been ignoring of late and that would bring you a whole new awareness perhaps?

==================
Technology:
==================

If you’re working with a group and want to keep track of commitments, action items and share documents in a community setting, sign up on www.collectivex.com and create a great parking zone for your project, group, association or task-force.  It’s great for scheduling, broadcasting emails to the group, file sharing, all within the privacy of your collectiveX group.  It’s also great for articulating your commitments and asking for help when you need it.

For future reference, Perspectives in Brief Newsletters will have a home right here and will be archived, so you always have access to them.

Those are my three cents for now, but before I let you do yourself a favor?  Ask yourself these questions “What do I need?”,  “What do I want?” and lastly “What am I going to do about it?”

And for those of you who want more than 2 minutes, book in a Laser or Lightening Round session.  For more information schedules and rates, contact us at info@abetterperspective.com

Let’s get you going.  Time to run with life, not away from it.
